Today, I’m excited to teach you the Royal Ridge Stitch—a simple yet elegant stitch that creates beautiful ridges, making it perfect for scarves, blankets, and even textured sweaters.

Let’s dive in!

 


 

Materials & Tools

  • Yarn – Any weight, but worsted or DK works well

  • Hook – Recommended size for your yarn (4mm or 5mm)

  • Scissors

  • Darning Needle

 


 

Abbreviations (UK Terms)

(US conversions in brackets)

  • ch – Chain

  • dc – Double Crochet (US: Single Crochet)

  • htr – Half Treble Crochet (US: Half Double Crochet)

  • blo – Back Loop Only

  • st(s) – Stitch(es)

 


 

Royal Ridge Stitch Pattern

Foundation Chain:

Make any even-numbered chain (e.g., 20, 22, 24, etc.).

Row 1:

  1. Htr in 2nd ch from hook, htr across. Turn.

Row 2:

  1. Ch 1 (does not count as a st).

  2. Htr in blo of each stitch across. Turn.

Row 3:

  1. Repeat Row 2, always working in the back loop only to create the ridges.

Repeat Row 2 for the desired length.

 


 

Tips for Success

✅ Keep a consistent tension to maintain even ridges.
✅ Use a smooth yarn to highlight the texture.
✅ Try a larger hook for a looser, softer fabric.
