Free Crochet Pattern – Crossbody Bag with Mixed Stitches (US SC + DC - UK DC + TRB)

Looking for a practical and stylish project? This crochet crossbody bag is the perfect mix of functionality and beauty. Using simple stitches — single crochet (US) / double crochet (UK) and double crochet (US) / treble crochet (UK) — we’ll create a textured, durable design that works great for everyday use.

This project is beginner-friendly but looks professional, making it ideal for gifting, selling, or keeping for yourself!

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn: Cotton or sturdy acrylic, medium (worsted) weight

  • Crochet hook: 4mm–5mm

  • 1 bag strap or chain (or crochet your own strap)

  • Scissors & yarn needle

Step-by-Step Pattern (Short Version for Blog):

  1. Bag Base

    • Chain 20 + 1.

    • Round 1: SC (US) / DC (UK) across, 3 stitches into last chain, rotate and continue on the other side of the chain. Join with slip stitch.

  2. Bag Body

    • Round 2-24: ch1, start with the opposite stitch you did on the one prior.

    • Continue until bag reaches desired height.

  3. Top Edge

    • Last round in (US sc - UK dc), create at the front (ch2, skip 2) for a space of a button.

    • Finish the round.

    • Repeat this time, creating two stitches on the (ch2) space.
    • End it with a slip stitch around.
  4. Strap

    • Option A: Crochet a long chain, then SC rows until strap is thick enough.

    • Option B: Attach a leather strap or chain.

✨ Pro Tips

  • Use a lining (fabric) for extra strength.

  • Try colour-changing yarn for a striped effect.
