How to Crochet a Floral Scrunchie – Beautiful & Decorative
Share
This is the grand finale of our scrunchie series! 🌸 Instead of a plain edge, we’ll crochet little flower-like petals around the elastic, giving you a scrunchie that looks handmade, stylish, and totally unique.
It’s a great project for intermediate beginners who already know their chains, single crochet, and double crochet.
Materials Needed:
-
1 hair elastic (no metal)
-
Yarn: cotton or acrylic (light to medium weight works best)
-
Crochet hook: 3.5mm–4.5mm (depending on yarn)
-
Scissors & yarn needle
Step-by-Step Instructions:
-
Attach Yarn to Elastic
-
Slip knot on hook, insert under elastic, pull through, secure with slip stitch.
-
-
First Round – Base Stitches
-
Work single crochet (US) / double crochet (UK) all around the elastic until fully covered.
-
-
Second Round – Petals
-
Pattern:
-
Chain 3, work 2 double crochets (US) / trebles (UK) in the same stitch, chain 3, slip stitch into the same stitch → this forms one petal.
-
Skip 1–2 stitches, then repeat in the next stitch.
-
-
Continue around until your scrunchie is covered with flower-shaped petals.
-
-
Finish Off
-
Join with slip stitch, cut yarn, weave in ends.
-
✨ Pro Tips
-
Use variegated yarn for multicolour petals without switching yarns.
-
Try alternating petal sizes (small + large) for a more natural floral look.
-
Add beads in the centre of each petal for extra decoration.
