Today, I’m thrilled to teach you the Celtic Weave Stitch—a stunning, textured stitch that creates an intricate woven effect. If you love cables or basketweave designs, this stitch will take your crochet skills to the next level!

Let’s dive right in.

 


 

Materials & Tools

  • Yarn – Worsted-weight or aran yarn for a bold texture.

  • Hook – 5mm or 6mm (adjust according to your yarn).

  • Scissors

  • Darning Needle

 


 

Abbreviations (UK Terms)

(US conversions in brackets)

  • ch – Chain

  • dc – Double Crochet (US: Single Crochet)

  • tr – Treble Crochet (US: Double Crochet)

  • fptr – Front Post Treble Crochet (US: Front Post Double Crochet)

  • bptr – Back Post Treble Crochet (US: Back Post Double Crochet)

Celtic Weave Stitch Pattern

Foundation Chain:

Make a multiple of 4 + 2 chains (e.g., 22, 26, 30, etc.).

Row 1:

  1. Tr in 4th ch from hook and across. Turn.

Row 2:

  1. Ch 2 (counts as first tr), fptr around next 2 tr, then fptr around previous 2 tr (crossing over the first two fptr).

  2. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 3:

  1. Ch 2, bptr around next 2 fptr, then bptr around previous 2 fptr (crossing over the first two bptr).

  2. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 4:

Repeat Row 2.

Row 5:

Repeat Row 3.

Repeat Rows 2–5 until your project reaches the desired length.
