Floret Stitch

Hey Crocheters! ✨ It’s Nadia here, the owner and creator of New Mom Spirit!

I’ve been crocheting for over two decades—yes, you read that right! I picked up my first hook and yarn when I was just seven years old, sitting next to my dear grandmother. She taught me how to knit, crochet, read patterns, and—most importantly—how to create something beautiful out of nothing.

She passed away just three days before my birthday this year, and I miss her every single day. But every stitch I make carries a piece of her love, wisdom, and creativity. And now, I want to share that with you.

Back then, I didn’t know the names of the stitches—I just followed the symbols and figured things out by sight. It took years for me to learn the proper names and techniques, but I never stopped creating.

I was told so many times that “craft can’t feed you” and “you can’t compete with big brands and machines.” But you know what? They were wrong.

And I’m here to prove it.

💖 If you love crochet, you CAN turn it into something bigger.
🧂 If you dream of mastering stitches, you WILL get there.
🚀 And I’m here to help you level up—from beginner to PRO.

So, let’s dive into today’s gorgeous stitch! 🎉

Floret Stitch

The Floret Stitch is an elegant, textured stitch that creates a subtle yet beautiful woven effect. This stitch is perfect for blankets, scarves, sweaters, and other cozy projects. It uses a combination of UK Double Crochet (US Single Crochet) and UK Treble Crochet (US Double Crochet) to form its unique texture.

Why You'll Love the Floret Stitch

  • It adds gentle texture without being too bulky
  • Works beautifully for garments, home decor, and accessories
  • Easy to learn and perfect for beginners to intermediate crocheters

Materials and Tools

Here are the materials I used for my swatch, but feel free to experiment with different yarns and hook sizes!

  • Yarn: Hobbii Kind Feather (DK) in your favorite shades
  • Crochet hook: 4.5mm
  • Scissors
  • Darning Needle

Abbreviations & Terms (UK Terms)

  • Stitch(s): st(s)
  • Slip Stitch(s): ss(s)

Floret Stitch Pattern

Foundation Chain:

Chain an even number of stitches + 1 for turning.

Row 1:

Starting in the second chain from hook, work 1 dc in each stitch across. Turn.

Row 2:

Ch 1 (does not count as a stitch), 1 dc, 1 tr across the row, ending with 1 dc. Turn.

Row 3:

Ch 1, work 1 dc in each stitch across the row. Turn.

Row 4 and beyond:

Repeat Rows 2 & 3 until you reach your desired length.

Final Row:

Finish on a Row 3 repeat to keep the edges even, fasten off, and weave in ends.

Tips for Success!

  • For a denser texture, use a smaller hook size than recommended for your yarn.
  • Experiment with color changes to create beautiful stripe effects!
  • If you want a thicker fabric, try working with chunky yarn for a cozy, warm result.
