Today, we’re exploring the Herringbone Treble Stitch, a unique variation of the treble crochet that creates a subtle slant, giving your fabric a beautiful woven effect. This stitch is perfect for elegant shawls, scarves, and even home décor projects.

Materials & Tools

  • Yarn – Any weight, but DK or Aran works well

  • Hook – Recommended size for your yarn (4mm or 5mm)

  • Scissors

  • Darning Needle

  • ch – Chain

  • dc – Double Crochet (US: Single Crochet)

  • htr – Half Treble Crochet (US: Half Double Crochet)

  • tr – Treble Crochet (US: Double Crochet)

  • hbt – Herringbone Treble (explained below)

  • st(s) – Stitch(es)

Herringbone Treble Stitch Pattern

Foundation Chain:

Make any even-numbered chain (e.g., 20, 22, 24, etc.).

Row 1:

  1. Herringbone Treble (hbt) in 4th ch from hook (counts as first stitch).

  2. *Yarn over, insert hook into next ch, yarn over, pull through (3 loops on hook).

  3. Pull first loop directly through the second loop (like a slip stitch).

  4. Yarn over, pull through one loop.

  5. Yarn over, pull through remaining two loops.*

  6. Repeat from * to * across. Turn.

Row 2:

  1. Ch 3 (counts as first hbt).

  2. Hbt in each stitch across. Turn.

Repeat Row 2 for the desired length.
